Start with placement

Keep the router in an open, central location where possible. Walls, cabinets, metal surfaces, and distance can weaken a wireless signal. Avoid placing a streaming device behind a television if the wireless antenna is obstructed.

Compare Wi-Fi bands and wired options

A 5 GHz network can offer more local capacity at shorter range; a 2.4 GHz network can travel farther but may be more crowded. The best option depends on the router, device, and layout of your home.

If your device and router have Ethernet ports, try a wired connection to determine whether Wi-Fi is the source of the interruption. Use only cables and adapters supported by the manufacturer.

Reduce avoidable traffic

Pause large downloads and backups while diagnosing a stream, and check whether other devices are using the connection. If performance changes by room or time of day, note that pattern before changing router settings.

For issues that remain on a stable local network, contact the stream provider with the time, device, and exact error message. Do not share account credentials in a public support channel.
